Authorities at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, on Thursday said an investigation has been started after eight female students of the varsity fainted allegedly after some unknown persons sprayed an anaesthetic spray at their faces.
The students of the MBA department fainted while they were waiting for their post-lunch classes around 2 pm.
The students were rushed to the primary health centre Awantipora, where doctors referred them to SKIMS, Soura, for specialized treatment.
One of the students told Greater Kashmir that this was the second such attack on them.
“Earlier on Tuesday unknown persons locked up the classroom. When we raised the cry the security staff came to our rescue and broke the lock,” she claimed.
The students said none of the female teachers accompanied them to SKIMS.
Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor and other officials have reached SKIMS to take stock of the situation and stated that students are out of danger.
Officials from vice-chancellor secretariat told Greater Kashmir that they have formed a committee to investigate the matter.
“The committee will investigate both the incidents and submit the report within 24 hours,” said an official.
Station house officer Awantipora, Nazir Ahmed said the police have taken cognisance of the matter and begun investigations.
