The Democratic Freedom Party while expressing serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of its incarcerated chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah said jail authorities at Delhi’s notorious Tihar are subjecting him to political vengeance. A DFP spokesperson in a statement said Kashmiri resistance leaders and activists languishing in outside J&K jails are facing extreme conditions as they are being denied basic facilities including the medical care. He said Shabir Ahmad Shah is being denied proper medical care at Tihar jail. He said even though the pro-freedom leader was taken to a nearest health centre on Tuesday but he is still not allowed the medicine doctors have prescribed him. This vindicates our apprehensions that authorities by depriving Shah of medical facilities are deliberately playing with his health. The spokesperson said Shabir Ahmad Shah is suffering from diabetes, blood pressure and knee pain and due to lack of proper medical care; his health has deteriorated to a large extent. He reiterated his appeal to the human rights organizations including the Amnesty International and Red Cross to take cognizance of the inhuman treatment meted out to Shabir Ahmad Shah and several Kashmiri incarcerated resistance leaders who according to the UN charter are the “Prisoners of War” and not criminals. The spokesperson strongly condemned the slapping of yet another PSA on the incarcerated Muslim League chairman Masarat Alam Bhat and said the court orders are being violated by those claiming to be safeguarding and upholding the law. The incarceration of the resistance leaders and activists is deliberately being prolonged by authorities, he said. The spokesperson also expressed serious concern over the continuous detention of ailing Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and Hurriyat leader Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sheikh Muhammad Ramzan. He said people are being kept behind bars irrespective of age and gender and this has become a hallmark of the PDP government.
