In a shocking incident, no officer offered his official vehicle to shift the cop to hospital who suffered bullets injuries after militants fired upon him in South Kashmir's Anantnag district on Thursday. Pistol borne militants fired at unarmed SPO, Ranvir Singh, near Deputy Commissioner (DC) office Anantnag this afternoon at around 1:20pm. The cops manning the gate of DC office and some civilians rushed towards the cop and brought him inside the premises of DC office. Inside DC office, the injured cop was laying on the ground for about fifteen minutes as no officer, employee, civilian offered his official or private vehicle for shifting the injured to nearby hospital. This reporter was present on the spot and spotted some officers and divers filming the injured cop instead of provided help hand. Top three officers of district administration-Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Anantnag-were also not available in their offices. However others including Tehsildar Anantnag, Naib-Tehsildar Anantnag, and Chief Education Officer, officers of Fisheries, Flood Control, Horticulture, Motor Vehicle Department, and Animal Husbandry were very much present in the mini-secretariat which houses offices of the most government departments including the office of DC Anantnag. All the officers their sub-ordinates including the visitors who had parked their vehicles in the premises of DC office acted as mute spectators till the injured cop was shifted to hospital in three-wheeler. The incident has exposed the system and officers who enjoy luxuries at the cost of taxpayers' money.
