Eyewitnesses told news agency CNS that a large number of people shortly after the culmination of Friday congregational prayers assembled on Boulevard road in Dalage Srinagar and demanded the closure of liquor bars in the area The protesters said that Hindu majority states like Bihar and Gujarat can impose a blanket ban on liquor trade, what’s the problem with Excise Department to ban this trade in Muslim majority state like Jammu and Kashmir. “Kashmir is the land of saints and shrines where liquor trade should be banned. The liquor business is affecting society and there is a need to close down all the liquor bars in Srinagar,” the protesters said. A police party rushed to spot and assured protesters that the issue would be taken up with higher authorities.
