Police arrest Mirwaiz, Malik, 'Calls for shutdown on Nov 27 : JRL | KNO

Police on Wednesday arrested Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chairman Yasin Malik from Abi Guzar area of Srinagar. The duo had reached at JKLF head office to lead a protest march upto Lal Chowk and a sit-in there against what they called government onslaught on the people and the plight of Kashmiri prisoners in jails. As soon as the leaders ended talking to media they tried to proceed towards Lal Chowk, however witnesses said that a huge contingent of police stopped and arrested them.

 

They said that people raised pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans on the occasion. Earlier, Mirwaiz, Malik and Syed Ali Geelani (telephonically) addressed people at Abi Guzar masjid. Joint Resistance Leaders on Wednesday announced a complete shutdown on November 27. The announcement came from Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq during a press conference in Abi Guzar ahead of protest march upto Lal Chowk and sit-in. “We appeal for complete shutdown on Nov 27 to show solidarity with the Kashmiri Prisoners languishing in different jails,” Mirwaiz said.
