Complying with court orders, Jammu Kashmir Police Thursday registered a formal FIR against Deputy Commissioner Shopian Ajaz Ahmed Mir for thrashing a local activist. The judicial magistrate Shopian had directed Station House Officer Police Station Shopian to register First Information Report (FIR) against Deputy Commissioner Shopian. Sajad Ahmad Dar Noorabadi, a local political activist had alleged that on October 30 when he was travelling from Srinagar to Shopian in his personal vehicle, the deputy commissioner Shopian “wrongfully stopped” him and “thrashed” him besides taking away “five ATM cards, PAN card and an identity card”. Dar had alleged that after the incident he knocked at the doors of SSP and SHO police station Shopian but they did not lodge FIR against the DC. A police official told news agency CNS that they have registered a formal FIR against Deputy Commissioner on the directions of the court. “A formal FIR vide number 291/2017 has been registered and investigation has been set into motion,” said the police official on condition of anonymity.
