JAMMU, NOVEMBER 19 (KNO) : In connection with celebration of World Toilet Day, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan flagged off a vehicle from BDO Office Satwari to Block Bhalwal to spread awareness on the issue.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (South) Sonu Pargal, District Panchayat Officer Zakir Hussain Wani, Block Development Officer Satwari Shahid Mughal, other senior officers besides Sarpanches, Panches and a large number of local people were also present on the occasion.
An awareness programme was also held about sanitation and hygiene issues on the occasion.
In his address Deputy Commissioner pointed out the ill-effects of poor sanitation and unhygiene. He said that poor sanitation is main cause of various diseases and stressed that people should understand the health risks of open defecation and build toilets to save their family members from various diseases.
He made the people aware about the use of individual toilets and said that special focus has been given to all those areas which have low coverage under Swachh Bharat Mission (G).
He advised everyone to adopt healthy habits and to keep their surrounding clean.
Earlier, he also inspected the ongoing construction work of twin pit toilets at block Satwari.(KNO)
