Protests erupted at Parimpora area of Srinagar today after rumors of a local youth's death in police custody started doing rounds on social networking sites here. According to news agency, some unknown persons spread rumors about death of Tawseef Ahmad who was arrested by police during a shootout at Zukura last week in which one militant Mugees Mir and a sub inspector Imran Tak were killed. Soon after the death rumor went viral, locals including youth came out on roads at Parimpora and started protests. They also blocked vehicular movement on the Highway at Parimpora. However, SSP Srinagar, Imtiyaz Ismail Parray told news agency GNS that Tawseef is safe and alive in police custody. "This is a mischief done by some trouble mongers. We have called his parents and they will meet him shortly at police station. We will take strict action against the rumor mongers," he said. (GNS)
