Police detained scores of Democratic Freedom Party activists after they staged a pro-freedom protest here in Press Enclave Srinagar. Reports said that scores of followers of senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah who is languishing in India’s Tihar Jail assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar on Thursday and demanded his immediate release. The protesters carrying the photographs of Shabir Ahmed Shah alleged that he has been booked under a well planned conspiracy as he didn’t succumb to the pressure exerted by India

They say Shah has been booked in an outdated case of 2005. “After 12 long years, Government of India in a bid to defame Shah opened the file and put him in prison. We are deeply concerned about his deteriorating health and he should be released immediately,” they said. When protesters started chanting pro-freedom slogans, police swung into action and detained scores of them. They were lodged in police station Kothibagh and later on shifted to Srinagar Centre Jail.
