Srinagar ,29 Nov (KNO) : Doctors Association Kashmir(DAK) on Wednesday appreciated and welcomed the initiative
of state government to create an independent Medical university. “The state has more than two dozens of
medical institutions, including medical and dental colleges, para-medical colleges/schools , which are currently
affiliated to Kashmir and Jammu universities” said DAK president Dr Suhail Naik. “This is our long pending
genuine demand as two main universities in the State- one at Kashmir and one at Jammu are overburdened
and they are catering to the needs of thousands of students from all three regions of the State. It is in place to
mention here that DAK has been stressing for the same from long time and also in recently held press
conference of Jammu Kashmir Doctors Cordination Committee(JKDCC), it was also demanded that a separate
medical university for state is need of hour. Furthermore starting of sanctioned five medical colleges will further
deteriorate the uniform functioning of said universities”, Dr Naik added.
Presently medical institutions and medical students are confronting multiple issues related to their academic
activities vis-à- vis admissions, counseling, timely conduct of exams, results and other allied issues in absence
of exclusive Medical University in the State. The delay of exams is a usual problem faced by medical students,
and with the result it takes them six years to complete five year course of medical graduation”,Dr Naik further
added.
“The independent Medical Science University will be governing body for all medical and paramedical
institutions and this will establish uniform standards par-excellence in academics and administration of teaching
and learning of health sciences”, Dr Naik further added.(KNO)
