Mehbooba Mufti appealed to ensure release of political prisoners | KNO

Srinagar, Dec 04 (KNO): Following the announcement of amnesty for first-time stone-throwers, the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti according to the sources has been appealed from different sections of socio-political individuals and organization of Kashmir valley to ensure the release of other hundreds of Hurriyat activists lodged in different jails in and outside the Valley since last many years. Earlier last month on recommendations of New Delhi-appointed interlocutor, Dineshwar Sharma, a former intelligence chief who recently visited Kashmir for a dialogue, J&K Government offered amnesty to over 4000 first-time stone-throwers in Kashmir. Though this step of the government was termed as cosmetic attempt, political stunt and a drama by pro-freedom thought of people, the Chief Minister and Dineshwar Sharma as well were appealed by the families of hundreds of Hurriyat activists to also consider the amnesty of their loved once lodged in different jails since past many years. According to the family members of the detainees, dozens of Hurriyat activists for their political ideology are lodged in different jails with criminals were basic facilities as per the jail manual including medical facilities are denied to them. Recently the news regarding the thrashing incident in Tihar jail evoked widespread peaceful protests during which a general strike was observed in Kashmir following the call of Joint Resistance Leadership. Ghulam Muhammad Bhat the father of an incarcerated Hurriyat activist while talking to Kashmir News Bureau said my concern is just not release of my son even we face immense difficulties to seek meeting with my ward. According to the sources Dineswar Sharma, who recently made to South Kashmir amid tight security was appealed to ensure the release of the political prisoners lodged in different jails. He according to sources was asked to acknowledge the political problems in Kashmir. The appeals for the release of political prisoners are not limited to the families; a day before ruling party youth President Waheed Ur Rehman Parra asked Mehbooba Mufti to consider differently abled youth of Baramulla Tanveer Ahmad War’s case under the ambit of Healing Touch who is currently behind the bars under Public Safety Act (PSA) in Central Jail Srinagar.(KNO)
