Dr Samoon inspects infra dev works in Samba, Kathua Colleges | KNO

‘Achieving excellence in Higher Education Govt’s priority’

JAMMU, DECEMBER 10 (KNO) : The Government has laid special focus on achieving equity, access and excellence in Higher Education through massive infrastructure upgrading and by introducing high employability ranking courses. “Government’s aim is to produce employable and competitive graduates, post-graduates and research scholars as well as to strengthen the infrastructure, achieve equity and excellence and fill the gap in rural and urban higher education institutions” Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, Dr Asgar Samoon told students during inspection of colleges in Samba and Kathua . Accompanied by a team of senior officers, Dr Samoon reviewed the functioning of Hirangar, Samba and Kathua Degree Colleges and inspected the ongoing infrastructure development works taken up under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and other schemes in these intuitions. He held marathon interactions with faculty and students of these colleges. He informed the students that government’s focus is on strengthening libraries, laboratories, promoting autonomous colleges and clubbing them to consolidate their strength and forming cluster universities. “Two cluster universities one each in Jammu and Srinagar have started function and the thrust is to create level field for students to go for modern courses having vast employability potential” he added. He said through RUSA greater emphasis has been placed on the improvement of the quality of teaching-learning processes in order to produce employable and competitive graduates, post-graduates, research scholars. The Principal Secretary also listened to the issues of workers engaged under local fund and assured to look into their demands. Prof Chaman Lal Gupta Foundation announces Rudra Awards.(KNO)
