Protests were held in Shahgund village of Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday after army allegedly beat up two teachers inside a tuition centre.Reports said that soldiers barged into a government-run Super 50 coaching centre and thrashed two teachers after they were pelted with stones in the village.
“We were busy teaching when army men without any provocation barged inside and started abusing and beating us around 11 am. Even the in-charge headmaster from Hajin was also beaten,” said a teacher, wishing anonymity.“Both the teachers after severe beating were treated locally,” he said.As the news spread in the village, locals staged aprotest against the army and observed a spontaneous shutdown.
When contacted, Station House Officer Mudasir Ahmad said he was unaware of the incident and that he was on patrol duty. “I will first confirm then I will talk,” he said.
Despite repeated attempts, army spokesman couldn’t be contacted for a comment.
