Senior resistance leader and chief of all-women Dukhtaran-i-Millat (DeM), Syedah Asiya Andrabi, was put under house arrest on late Thursday evening.
DeM spokesperson, Sofi Fehmeeda, told the Kashmir Reader that a posse of police personnel reached Andrabi’s Soura residence at around 7 pm and told her that she was under house detention. “You cannot move out of her house,” cops told Andrabi.
56-year-old Andrabi was released, along with Fehmeeda from Central Jail Srinagar on December 25, 2017 after months’ long detention.
It may be recalled that the government has detained Hurriyat Conference chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in their respective homes while as Yasin Malik has been lodged in central jail.
The move comes after the joint resistance leadership called for a public rally in northern Kashmir’s Sopore town on January 06 to remember the victims of 1994 massacre.
The government also blocked a seminar called by ailing Geelani to deliberate upon the UN resolutions passed on Kashmir.
