JAMMU, JANUARY 07 (KNO) : Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Tribal Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali said that sports persons are top ambassadors of the state who can change the perception and mindset of people living across nation. The Minister was speaking at closing ceremony of the 2nd All India Inter-University Rollball (Men &Women) Tournament 2017-18 organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education at Sports Stadium, Jammu University, here today. Member Legislative Council, Surinder Kumar Choudhary was also present on the occasion. The Minister said that sports is most powerful tool to develop positive approach among youth adding that there is immediate need to promote sports culture to encourage our young generation to actively participate in sports activities to channelize their energy in right prospective. He said that there is a no dearth of talent in our state and government is making all out efforts to provide enhanced sports infrastructure to the budding sportspersons so that they can compete at national and international level and bring laurels to the state and nation. Ch. Zulfkar lauded the efforts of the University authorities for organizing mega Sports event and said that the University of Jammu is doing yeoman job in all spheres including the Sports. Prof. R.D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu also addressed the gathering and advised the students to participate in the Sports for their overall development. Later, the Minister presented trophies and medals among the winning and runner up teams. Among others, Prof. Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Organizing Secretary & Director Sports, Prof. Jigar Mohammad (DRS), Dr. Meenakshi Kilam (Registrar), Prof. Satya Pal, Prof. Parmeshwari Sharma (I/c GZSA), Dr.Neeraj Sharma (S.S to V.C), Dr. Dharminder Magotra (JR (F) and Manager JU Rollball (M) Team) and Pawan Singh Bhau (President JTEU) ,Mahesh Sharma (Physical Director), H.S Chib, Dr. Brij Baloria, Gurdeep Singh Bakshi, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Jai Bharat, P.D Singh, Vinay Manhas, Harinderpal Singh and Pardeep Sharma were also present on the occasion. In the final match, played today University of Jammu Rollball (M) team defeated Bharti Vidhyapeeth Deemed University, Pune by 9-4 goals. Dilpreet Singh scored four goals while Hiteshwar Singh and Amritpal Singh contributed two goals each for the Jammu University team. While Bharti Vidhyapeeth Deemed University, Pune outplayed Punjab University Chandigarh in the final match by 5-0 goals in a one sided contest and won the 2nd All India Inter-University Rollball (W) Tournament. Anjali Nair scored four goals for the Bharti Vidhyapeeth Deemed University.(KNO)
