The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Thursday issued stay on state Government’s order on attachment of SKIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) G. A. Ahangar with the General Administration Department. Pertinently, on January 06, Professor Ahangar was removed by the state government after his three doctors were found practising privately, which is against the rules of the SKIMS, the Mehbooba Mufti led government ordered suspension of three senior faculty members of SKIMS, Soura and their immediate attachment with the office of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir. The Government has also ordered the attachment of Director, SKIMS, Prof. (Dr.) G. A. Ahangar with the General Administration Department till further orders. This follows complaints of private practice by these three doctors despite drawing Non Practicing Allowance by them. According to a Government order Prof.(Dr.) Altaf Kirmani, Dean & Head, Department of General Surgery; Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, Head, Department of Neurology and Dr. Wajid Ali, Head, Department of Neonatology,SKIMS, Soura have been placed under suspension for violating norms of not practicing while serving the SKIMS. Pertinently, Doctors in Kashmir have threatened to go on a strike if the government did not revoke the order of removal of the Director, Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Prof AG Ahangar. The Doctors’ Association Kashmir said the attachment of Professor Ahangar must be revoked immediately and he should be brought back to the department gracefully. The association warned of “serious consequences if the Director is not reinstated immediately for which the whole onus will lie on the government”. (KNB)
