Sports best medium to channelize youth energy in right direction : Dy CM | KNO

JAMMU, JANUARY, 14 (KNO) : Terming sports as an essential element in maintaining a balance between mind, body and soul, the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, today exhorted upon youth to espouse extracurricular activities for their personality development. The Dy CM said this after watching the final match of (Confederation of Indian Industries) CII- Corporate Cricket Tournament played between HDFC Bank and Simula JK at playground of KC Public School, Jammu, today. The tournament, sponsored by the HDFC Bank, began on 23 December 2017, in which 12 corporate teams of the State participated. Simula JK won the final match defeating HDFC Bank by 92 runs. Speaking on the occasion, the Dy CM said that sports is beneficial for physical health and participation in it can positively affect mental health of young generation,. While emphasizing the significance of sports promotion at all levels for overall personality development, Dr Singh said sports and academics need equal focus as both are vital for shaping the future of students towards a right direction. The Deputy Chief Minister said the Government has already initiated several flagship programmes in the sports sector which would be augmenting the existing infra besides adding the new ones. The Dy Chief Minister assured, the government would leave no stone unturned in further raising the sports infrastructure in every part of the state. He said that during the past few years a number of major initiatives have been launched to equip the state sports stadia with latest facilities to match the national and international standards in the world of sports. Punit Kumar of Simula JK team bagged man of the match, man of the series and best batsman positions because of his all round performance. While as Altaf Ahmad of HDFC Bank was declared as best player of the series. Chairman, CII, Jammu and Kashmir Rahul Sahai, Member CII Rajesh Sharma, Director Sports KC Public School, Jammu, Arjun Choudhary and Executive Officer, CII, were present on the occasion.(KNO)
