SRINAGAR: January 21, 2018 (KNO) : Remembering the Gawkadal Massacre, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Geelani said that Indian occupational forces have left their brutal footprints in every nook & corner of the state and Gawkadal is one amongst these massacres, where armed forces yet again deshaped and molested the already bloated face of the so-called Indian democracy. People were peacefully protesting against the highhandedness of forces when they were showered with bullets from all around, massacring more than 50 people. Geelani Sahab said that history may have not witnessed such heinous acts of barbarism when peaceful protests were suddenly trapped in a pool of bullets by these ruthless beasts. Some jumped in the river Jhelum and others could not even run for their life. Hailing the courageous determination of the families of victims, Geelani Sahab said that we can never afford to distance from the sacred mission of martyrs and need to try our best to get rid of this humiliated slavery. He said that these martyrs are the torch bearers of our movement and every soul reminds us of this noble cause. He further said that the best way to pay homage to our beloved hero’s is that we should not fall prey to the nefarious designs of our oppressor and their stooges. We should take pledge that we will fight this oppression tooth & nail till our last breath and wishfully will render any sacrifice to achieve our goal, otherwise page long statements may get us a good media coverage, but can in no way be a substitute for the responsibility we have been put. He appealed the people not to get swayed by the glory and glitter of the hollow slogans of the local puppets and their masters, otherwise these martyrs will catch hold of us on the doomsday and question us that we had given our today for your tomorrow, but you bargained our sacrifices, blood and flesh for your gains. Hurriyat Chairman said that Gowkadal Massacre was planned and executed by then the saffron brigade governor Mr. Jag Mohan but the bloody events thereafter were carried out under the nose of so-called Kashmiri leadership which has been thriving on our dead bodies for the last 70 years. Geelani Sahab said neither Jag Mohan was question by his brutality nor the local goons were taken to task for their blood drenched hands. We continue to bleed for the last 7 decades, but it fails to get any attention from the powers and people who day in and day out are delivering sermons on human rights, democracy & peace and unfortunately our political vultures most cunningly and hypocritically are in race to sell our blood and honor for their belly. Meanwhile Hurriyat chairman has reaffirmed appeal for complete shutdown of 25th and 27th January in Handwara and Kupwara towns respectively to pay homage and tributes to the martyrs. He further appealed for a thorough and impartial probe of all these unfortunate incidents of mass killings by world human rights bodies like Amnesty International and Asia Watch.(KNO)
