Minister V K Singh defends anti-Padmavat protests, says ‘history shouldn’t be tampered’
Saying that protests will happen whenever there is clash of interest, former army chief and Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V K Singh on Friday defended the protests held across India against the Bollywood movie Padmavat, said a media report.
“Whenever we say something about history we must cross check it. Freedom of expression doesn't give us any right to tamper the history. We should pacify and resolve the situation by talking to the people, who are protesting against the film,” he said. He said that the protesters should be asked about their concerns and objections in the film.
“Whenever there are clashes of interest, things will certainly be messed up," Singh said, according to the report published in the Outlook magazine.
Extremist groups including Rajput Karni Sena have gone on a rampage demanding ban on the movie that depicts “romance” between a Muslim king and a Hindu queen.
