National Conference on Monday demanded the accused soldiers named in the FIR in connection with the killing of two civilians should be arrested immediately. According to the GNS correspondent, senior NC leader and former minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Moahmmad Sagar said that with regard to the civilian killings by army in the Shopian, the inquiry should be conducted without any delay within the already given time frame. "Accused soldiers named in the FIR should be arrested immediately", Sagar said. Sagar while addressing reporters outside the House said that the accused soldiers named in the FIR in Shopian killings should be immediately arrested. He said that 20 days deadline inquiry be conducted. “The probe should be completed and those named in the FIR should be arrested,” he said. Earlier, Legislative Assembly witnessed uproar over civilian killings by army in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Saturday. As soon as the House assembled this morning, members of opposition National Conference and Congress stood up from their seats. They were joined by PDP MLA Ashraf Mir. The opposition members including Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Altaf Kaloo and others shouted slogans and demanded action against the army for civilian killings. The legislators also lashed out at BJP MLA Ravinder Rana for his remarks justifying the army firing. The BJP legislator Ravinder Raina, who is MLA Nowshera, had said that “army did the right thing” by opening fire. Two teenage civilians were killed and several others injured when army opened the fire. Raina had also dared the police to register as many FIRs but insisted that army enjoys the “impunity under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).” “There is nothing like magisterial enquiry. Army enjoys impunity under AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir, army has its own court. Lodge FIR as many as you want, police FIRs don’t work (against army), “ he had said. Army has said that it fired in “self defence”. (GNS)
