In a shocking incident, Bank of India has opened fake bank accounts of people to grab money generated through subsidy on gas connections, alleged the locals from Saffron town Pamore of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Reports said that dozens of people from Pampore raised hue and cry at Bank of India Branch located on Maulan Azad Road Srinagar. While accusing Bank authorities of fraud, they alleged that Bank authorities have opened up their accounts without their consent.
“We were shocked to see account have been created in this branch without our knowledge. We have never approach this Bank and still we are the account holders here. We don’t know where they have obtained our photographs and signatures,” the protesting people told
They displayed the account numbers before the reporters in Press Enclave Srinagar. Some of the account numbers they displayed included 790010510000107 and 790010510000099.
They claimed that a bank official on the condition of anonymity informed us that money has been deposited and withdrawn from our accounts. “It seems a scandal and the matter should be probed. Action should be initiated against Bank employees involved in this fraud,” they said.
When contacted, Manager Bank of India refused to comment on the issue.
