A flag hoisting ceremony was carried out across the nation by government and non-government officials. Muzzafar Ahmad Malik, Tehsildar of south Kashmir’s Verinag area was reportedly absent from duty. Muzzafar, who was assigned the duty of attending the ceremony did not show up despite receiving strict orders from the district administration to do so. The Tehsildar instead sent his Pathwari, who was also his driver to attend the flag hoisting ceremony. This act on Muzaffar Ahmad’s part was seen as a mark of disrespect to the national flag.
