Pakistanis across the globe mark the day to express their support to the Kashmiris in the “struggle for their inalienable right” to self-determination under the United Nations (UN) resolution. A one-minute silence was observed in Pakistan at 10 AM to pay homage to those killed in Kashmir. Pak President Mamnoon Hussain is scheduled to address the main ceremony of the Day in Islamabad. “Kashmir Solidarity Day”, or “Kashmir Day”, is a national holiday in Pakistan. The day often marks unrest in Kashmir. “Kashmir Day” was first proposed by the then Pak Jamaat-e-Islami chief (Amir) Moulana Qazi Hussain Ahmad in 1990. Since then the Day is celebrated every year.
