Handicraft Department Pulwama organised awareness camp at Pulwama | KNO

Pulwama 10 February (KNO) : In order to give a flip to the handicraft industry and encourage the local youth to take up handicraft manufacturing as a profession, Handicraft Department Pulwama on Saturday organised an awareness camp at Pulwama. DDC Pulwama Ghulam Mohammad Dar was the Chief Guest on The occasion. The awareness programme was attended by A D Handicraft Beenish Wani, other officers of the department besides large number of artisans and local people. Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that handicrafts industry being the foremost traditional industry and has played an important role in generating the livelihoods and employment besides representing the unique culture and tradition of our valley.He further said that this sector handicraft industry is a major source of income for weaker section especially for the artisans of rural community. Dar further stressed on an integrated approach for linking of flagship schemes like Hunnar and UMEED with the handicraft department and said that maximum advantage should be taken from these schemes apart from providing livelihood opportunities to the artisans. He further said that provision of loan assistance is also available for the artisans to set up their income generating units and urged upon the prospective artisans to come forward and take benefits of various schemes of the department meant to improve their socio-economic condition. On the occasion DDC also announced Rs .3 lac for the establishment of tribal centers in the District. Speaking on the occasion A D Handicraft, appraised the participants about various schemes of that cater to unemployed educated youths and provide them oppurtunity to become budding entrepreneurs, job providers and innovators.(KNO)
