Snowfall rendered Kashmir Valley cut off while flights were also cancelled on Monday.
Kashmir Valley was hit by heavy snowfall which resulted in the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the only road link between the Valley and India.
"The highway was closed to traffic due to heavy snowfall near BanihalTunnel and at many other places along the route," said a traffic official.
Vital road links were also closed for traffic due to massive snowfall. Karna-Keran road in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district has been closed for the traffic following massive snowfall in the area.
An official said that Karna and Keran sectors witnessed heavy snowfall as a result road has become slippery.
“To avoid any mishap the traffic on Karna-Keran road has been suspended,” he added.
Srinagar received this year’s first snowfall while heavy snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches. The mercury settled at a low of 0.2 degrees in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Snow fall was also recorded famous tourist destinations including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Doodhpathri, Verinag and other places.
A MeT official said that weather will improve from Wednesday and there are chances that snowfall may lash Kashmir Valley till Tuesday night again.
