DG Prisons Inspects Functioning of District Jail Udhampur | KNO

After the SMHS attack where a Pakistani militant Naveed Jatt escaped, the Director General Prisons, Dilbag Singh is on a series of visits in various jails to monitor their functioning. Today he visited District Jail Udhampur to review the security and other necessary arrangements. Senior Superintendent of police Udhampur Rayees Mohammad Bhat, Rajni Sehgal, Superintendent District Jail, Udhampur, Shri Faizal Qureshi, Addl SP Udhampur, Shri Kameshwar Puri DySP Hqrs Udhampur and Assistant Commandant CRPF accompanied the DG. As per the statement, DG complimented the Jail Superintendent and the staff for maintaining the jail premises in an orderly manner. The inner area was found neat and clean. The food offered to inmates was also checked and found to be of good quality. However, some minor changes were suggested.

Later the DG walked down the peripheral area where some improvements were needed to augment the security arrangements. “Superintendent Jail and Officer I/C were asked to pay attention and SP Udhampur was requested to provide necessary support,” a statement said. Certain joint security exercises by the District Police, CRPF unit and the Jail officers/officials shall be conducted as per the discussions carried out with the officers. The security and infrastructure related issues were discussed with all concerned and they were asked to address them on top priority.
