Shopian (KNO) : The endless efforts to channelize the traffic in Shopian, ARTO Maajid in collabaration with JK Armed Police launched “Road safety” programme in APC Zewan, which was inaugurated by officials of IGP Armed police.
With a focus on enforcement and education, the One-day programme covered capacity building training for the police drivers and a series of public awareness campaigns.
India accounts for more than 12 percent of the worldwide annual average of 12.4 million global road fatalities of which drunken driving is one of the leading causes.
The capacity building training for the Police drivers was conducted by ARTO Shopian Er. Maajid Bhatt, expert faculty of the transport department. The deliberations include causes and consequences of road accidents, rules of road regulations and understanding traffic control devices. The training also imparts knowledge of the importance of seat belts and helmets, advantages of defensive driving and ill effects of drunken driving.
“Police drivers are always committed to the safety of its people and addressing the menace of road accidents has been a priority. The successful execution of this project is a progressive step forward to ensure safety of our people by upgrading our own internal capacity. We are confident that with a sustained campaign on public awareness, we will soon see a reduction in road traffic accidents in Kashmir,” said Co 9th Bn JK Armed Police Shalinder Singh.

We believe that efforts to reduce the misuse of rash driving is most effective when government, civil society, individuals, families and industry work collaboratively. We are delighted with our partnership with the Armed Police and we are committed to take this programme to greater heights,” said Er.Maajid Bhatt.
“It is always said that police drivers don’t follow the norms of traffic and don’t maintain discipline on road,so it was mandatory to deliberate the importance of road safety for police drivers,” ARTO added.(KNO)
