1st month of 'Buddhist Calendar' is observed | KNO

Srinagar, February 27  (KNO) : The 1st month of Buddhist Calendar is observed as sacred month and during the entire month Buddhists of Leh organize various prayers at Monasteries and village level. On 14th and 15th of this calendar i.e. falling on 28th February and 1st of March 2018, on this occasion the devotees perform annual Gochak procession which starts from Leh Gate and passes through main market to Tsemo Monastery and culminate on the 3rd day morning at Leh Gate.

Thousands of devotees participates in the Gochak prayers every year, in which devotees prostrate and march for whole days on the road. Sheynam Gochak Tsogspa consisting of about 150-160 devotees have already started their prostration (Gochak) procession in Leh from 26.02.2018, and they will join the main Gochak party at Leh gate on 28.02.2018. Moreover, the annual two day long Mela Mathoo Monastery is being celebrated at Mathoo (25 Kms) away from Leh Hqr.

on 1st and 2nd of March 2018. Elaborate Police / Security arrangements have been made for both the occasion to ensure safety / security of the devotees and maintenance of law and order on the occasion.(KNO)
