SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 28 (KNO) : Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Dr. G.N. Itoo today visited various schools in Budgam to take stock of the educational scenario and teaching learning process in the district. During his visit to Boys and Girls Higher Secondary Schools, Budgam, the DSEK took serious note of the thin attendance of the students in both the schools.
He stressed upon the fact that the students with less attendance in the schools should not be allowed to sit in the board examinations. He further said that for this purpose, reports at various levels should be compiled to monitor the attendance of students in the schools. At first, monthly reports should be compiled by concerned Principals; the CEO concerned should submit the report after second month and in the third month, Directorate of School Education, Kashmir should publish the list of the students with thin attendance and those students who should not be allowed to sit in the examinations.
In presence of District Development Commissioner, Budgam Muhammad Haroon Malik, the DSEK also called a conference of the Heads of all the institutions in the district. During their interaction with DSEK, the students highlighted some issues being faced by them related to teaching learning process. A student requested for providing opportunity to them to take part in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities along with their regular curriculum. The DSEK assured that they would be provided with every opportunity in this regard. He stressed upon all the Head of the Institutions and teachers to provide students ample opportunity and chance to express their thoughts and ideas in and outside the classrooms.
He also urged the teachers and students to adopt an illiterate person of their family or locality and try to provide basic knowledge to them. The DSEK said that according to a latest order, 80 per cent of the local funds are to be retained by the schools for their utilization for the development of the school. Quoting the announcement of the Minister for Education, Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari to make 2018 as the year of infrastructure development for the education sector, the DSEK said that in this regard a task force team under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi has been constituted to achieve the set targets.
He directed all the Head of the Institutions and Zonal Education Officers to submit a report about the infrastructure or any other requirement in their schools before March 10, 2018. Speaking on the occasion, District Development Commissioner, Budgam highlighted the low literacy rate of the district and said that necessary steps should be taken in this regard. He directed all the Head of the Institutions to follow and implement the orders of the DSEK in letter and spirit. During the tour, the DSEK also conducted a surprise inspection of examination centre for bi-annual Matriculation Examination in BHSS, Soibugh wherein an examiner was suspended for negligence in duties and the Superintendent of the Centre was immediately replaced.
The DSEK was accompanied by Joint Director Central, Abid Hussain, Joint Director SSA, H.R Pakhru, Joint Director School Education Suraya Bano, Chief Education Officer, Budgam, Abdul Rouf Shahmiri and the affiliates of State Media Centre, SIE Kashmir during the visit.(KNO)
