Winter Sports begins in Bhaderwah | KNO

BHADERWAH,MAR 23 (KNO) : As a part of adventure tourism the winter sports event organised by Bhaderwah Development Authority in collaboration with Department of Tourism started at famous tourist destination namely Padri of Bhaderwah in Chenab valley with the Snow Shoe run and skiing.

Chief Executive Officer BDA and Assistant Director Tourism Doda Shazia Rehman flagged off the run in Padri at the slopes marking the beginning of the winter sports and the athletes ran 2km on the beaten track.Fifty athletes took part in snowshoe running that involved total of 2 kilometers snowshoeing.Large number of locals and tourists had turned up at Padri to witness snow capped meadows and also enjoy skiing.Speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Director Tourism Shazia Rehman said Padri is a major tourism attraction which receives tourists from all over the country as its border touches with Chamba , Himichal Pradesh . She said the department along with Bhaderwah Development Authority is organizing more activities including snowboarding, ice-staking, heli-skiing besides musical events during winter months to attract tourists.

“We are not only promoting Padri but also Jai valley of Bhaderwah as a winter sports destination where winter sports activities like skiing and ice-climbing will held for whole week ” said CEO BDA Dr Rajinder Kumar Khajuria . He said snowshoe is popular sport and daily basis activity in Europe and American countries and department is promoting it in Bhaderwah valley of Chenab region by organizing multiple events.We all hope that the adventure sports events will also boost the prospects of good tourism season ahead, he said .

The Bhaderwah is only place in whole Chenab valley has enormous scope for adventure tourism and we are bound to explore the possibility to exploit this important sector of tourism. The Tourism Department and BDA is planning to open new areas for promotion of adventure tourism and introduce new products that would suit and lure the tourists,” he said.He added that these games would echo the slogans of “Visit Bhaderwah ”, which is the department’s promotional slogan for the year.It is notable to mention here that there is need to focus on these sports and go for massive publicity and promotional programs forthwith.(KNO)
