Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Mehmood Shah has strongly condemned the "violent beating" and arrest of students of Degree College Baramulla saying that it is the democratic right of every human being to protest. Lashkar spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi in a statement quoted Mehmood Shah as saying that "today every man, woman, young and child is protesting Indian occupation".
Shah condemned the alleged raids on students' homes and warned the police personnel to abstain from committing "heinous crimes". Let chief asked the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti to take immediate and proactive measures for the release of arrested students. He said the Hurriyat leadership should visit the affected families and areas. "The people will continue to demonstrate such protests until the illegal Indian occupation ends. The Mujahideen will continue to counter forces til freedom," Mehmood Shah said.
