Police in nocturnal raids arrested many civilians in Pulwama village on charges of protests and stone pelting, reports said on Friday.

The arrests have been made in Marvel village of the south Kashmir district. Local sources said that people hit the streets during the night and held protests against the police raids and arrests. They alleged that police fired many tear smoke shells on protesters during the night. Meanwhile, protests were held at Drubgam village of Pulwama during night after the men in uniform reached the village and allegedly started pulling down banners and posters related to slain militant commander Sameer Tiger.

Tiger was killed in his village on Tuesday during a gunfight. Locals had erected banners in the area a day ahead of Sameer’s Chaharum.
