Ahead of the Durbar move to summer capital, police have urged the landlords of Srinagar to provide the details of the tenants, adding that the failure will invite legal action.

The move offices closed in Jammu on April 27 and will reopen on May 7 here. The security in Srinagar has been beefed up and seeking of details of tenants is part of the security measures taken by police. The move, SSP Srinagar Imtiaz Ismail Parray told, is aimed at keeping under check the “miscreants” and the “elements carrying out subversive activities”. “I request that all (landlords) should cooperate in providing the information (about tenants) to the nearby police station so that miscreants and subversive elements are kept at bay and under check so that the (Srinagar) city remains safe,” the SSP said.

“The landlords are instructed to inform police about the tenants staying in their premises, so that information is accordingly updated in the police station records. In case anyone fails to provide the said vital information, he/she would face legal action,” he added. A police spokesperson said that police stations are sensitizing people in their jurisdictions about the move. In this connection, Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh held a meeting with the landlords from all the beats, they said, adding that participants were informed about the importance of cooperation and good relations between police and public for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the area, he said, adding that the meeting was chaired by SDPO Nehru Park Sudhanshu Verma (IPS) along with SHO Ram Munshi Bagh Inspector Mohammad Issac.

The meeting ended on a cordial note with the members acknowledging the role of police besides assuring full cooperation in maintaining peace and tranquility in the area, the spokesperson added.
