Ashraf Mir reviews functioning of Legal Metrology Department | KNO

SRINAGAR, MAY 8 (KNO) : Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Mohammad Ashraf Mir today held a meeting to review the functioning of the Legal Metrology department here.

The meeting was attended by Secretary, FCS&CA, Dr Abdul Rashid; Director, FCS&CA (Kashmir), Nisar Ahmad Wani, Controller, LMD, J&K, R K Katoch and other concerned officers of the department. On the occasion, the Controller LMD briefed the minister about the functioning of the department. While enquiring about the achievements, the minister was informed the department has recovered Rs 86.42 lakh from 6721 violators in the state as penalty in 2017 – 2018. "Besides, Rs 1.87 Crore was recovered as stamping fee on account of verification of commercial weights and measures from the violators," they said. The Minister was also briefed about various state and centrally sponsored schemes with regards to the ongoing construction works in the department.

Appreciating the efforts of the department, the minister asked the officials to be polite and gentle while carrying out their professional duties. He stressed that the stakeholders should not be subjected to any kind of harassment while conducting market checks "However, there should be close vigil on market violations. The interest of the consumers should be of paramount importance while you discharge your duties. You should come up to the expectations of the people," he said.
