JAMMU, May 10 (KNO) : Stating that situation in Kashmir is volatile and can erupt like a volcano if not handled carefully, Janta Dal United (JDU) J&K State President GM Shaheen, today said,

“We need to address the basic issues confronted by the people as Kashmir situation is worrisome and it is imperative for the central government to ensure that this basic issue is resolved according to the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state under the constitution.” Shaheen while speaking at an All Party Meeting (APM) Chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti lamented that the youngsters’ especially stone pelters are dealt with aggressive policies which provokes the youth to take extremism. He further demanded that stone pelters are our own children and instead of dealing with them harshly, we need to owe, guide and counsel them towards contributing in the society rather than being destructive for the entire state.

He further said, “On one hand, Central government sent its Interlocutor for initiating dialogue with every stakeholders but on the other, put senior Hurriyat leaders under the custody of NIA and detained them in infamous Tihar Jail. He made a favourable plea to central government to immediately release all those Separatist leaders who are languishing in Tihar Jail, so that a conducive atmosphere is created for holding dialogue with separatists as well.”

He further demanded that national media should be held accountable by the Central government for portraying Kashmir negatively and urged them to portray a true picture of Kashmir known for its hospitality. He also said that Central as well as state government needs to take effective measures within a stipulated time so that situation in Kashmir becomes normal which otherwise is beyond the control of state government.
