Srinagar (KNO) 17th May 2018 : Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik has been arrested by police this afternoon. After attending a seminar on Shaheed-I-Millat Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and Shaheed-I-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Gani Lone and a joint meeting, Yasin sahib reached JKLF office this afternoon and soon after his arrival police cordoned the office and arrested him. Immediately after his arrest, he was shifted to police station Kothibagh. Prior to arrest, JKLF chairman talked to media person outside JKLF office and said that today is the first day of holy Ramadhan and he is being arrested on this very day. This is the reality of Indian democracy in Jammu Kashmir which has choked every little space of peaceful political activities in Kashmir.

He said that a blanket ban he has been imposed on peaceful political activities and the height of shamelessness is such that funerals and mourning’s has also been banned. Every now and then out youth are been mercilessly killed, maimed, blinded, arrested, tortured and humiliated by Indian occupational forces. All this fascism is being done in the name of democracy, peace and law and order which actually makes this act uglier, said Yasin Malik. He said that JRL has called for a complete shutdown on 19th May 2018, on the arrival of Indian PM Narender Modi.JRL has asked people to gather at Lal Chowk and stage peaceful protest sit-in against gross human rights violations committed in Kashmir by India.

Through this peaceful protest we intend to convey our dissent against killings of youth, spree of arrests, choking of political space and other acts of oppression and aggression. Instead of allowing this peaceful protest and dissent spree of arrests that too on 1st day of holy month Ramdhan has been started which is highly condemnable. He said that despite all this oppression, killings, arrests, humiliations and aggression our sacred struggle for freedom will continue and no stone will be left unturned to achieve this goal.

Meanwhile JKLF has expressed heartfelt grief and sorrow over the demise of the mother in law of lecturer Bashir Ahmad Dar .the deceased was mother of Haji Abdul Aziz Parry.
