Family members and relatives of slain militant Mudasir Ahmed from Parigam Kulgam village who was identified by them as one among the five militants killed recently in gunfight at Tangdhar near Line of Control staged a protest demanding the exhumation of body and handing it over to them. The family members assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar.

They were carrying placards and banners urging upon Government to handover the body of Mudasir buried in Tanghdar to family without any DNA process. “Mudasir had gone to Delhi to attend the marriage party of a friend. He was a physical teacher who last time contacted us from Delhi Metro Station. Now we have come to know that he is one of the five militants killed in Tanghdar encounter. We have everything to prove that the one of the militants killed is Mudasir but the district and police administration are using dilly dally tactics. There is no need for any DNA procedure,” the family members told

Mudasir as per family had been missing since March 26, 2017. Last week, the family had identified him after photographs of the slain militants starting doing rounds on social media. The army had claimed that all the five killed militants were non-locals. Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Pulwama where police lobbed tear-smoke shells to disperse the protesters who were demanding the exhumation the body of Lajura youth Shiraz Ahmed and bringing back the body from Tanghdar to Lajura.

Protest was also held in Parigam Kulgam- the native village of Mudasir Ahmed. When contacted, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Khalid Jahangir said that all the formalities have been completed and now police have to take a final call. A police official said that they have already started DNA sampling. “Once samples match, we will submit report to Deputy Commissioner and accordingly body will be handed over to the family,” he said.
