Kashmiri priaoners ill-treated in prisons : Geelani | KNO

Srinagar, June 10 (KNO) : Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani today expressed deep concern and anguish over the plight of detainees languishing in different jails in and outside valley.

They are ill-treated and humiliated for their affiliation with freedom struggle and subjected to vengeance, he said. Geelani said that “The information received from jails regarding the plight of detainees is disturbing and horrifying, saying “These political prisoners are ill-treated, confined to solitary cells and humiliated by criminals lodged in these jails. They are denied medical treatment and basic needs.” They are not even allowed to offer the religious obligation, Geelani said and blamed authorities for their callous and inhuman approach against detainees, saying “The Kashmiri political detainees, lodged in the outside valley jails, are on one pretext or the other, harassed, intimidated and subjected to political vendetta.

The pro-freedom leader said the “vengeful treatment” of detainees is so painful that they are even denied proper medical care. They are being provided with sub-standard food and their meeting with families denied on one pretext or the other. Hailing detainees for their sacrifices towards pious cause and their steadfastness, Geelani said that the plight of detainees in various jails was “deeply disturbing and a matter of serious concern.”

The treatment meted out to Kashmiri detainees is inhuman, Geelani said and added it is deliberately aimed at to break their will and determination. Dealing with them inhumanly is not only a violation of basic human rights and dignity of prisoners but even against basic human practices and ethics,” he said. Qadir Bhat, nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Tariq Ahmad, Manzoor Ahmad, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Peer Saifullah, Ayaz Akbar, raja Meraj-ud-din Kalwal, Naeem Ahmad Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Shahid Yousuf, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Aslam Wani, Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Dr. Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, (Tihar jail) Bilal Ahmad Kota, Masarat Allam Bhat, Gh. Mohammad Khan Sopori, Mohammad Ayoub Dar, Mohammad Ayoub Mir, Hakeem Showkat, Asadullah Parry, Showkat Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Ramzan Khan, Farooq Tawheedi (Kotbalwal) Ali Mohammad Bhat, Mirza Nisar Hussain, Lateef Ahmad Waza, Abdul Gani Goni ( Jodhpur Rajasthan) Mohammad Yousuf Mir, Mohammad Yousuf Falahi, Ameer-e-Hamza Shah, Mir Hafizullah, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Gani Bhat, Mohammad Subhan Wani (other Jails) Syed Ali Geelani in his statement quoting recently released Mohd Siddiq Ganai, Farooq Ahmad Daga and Gh Jelani Daga, said the inhuman treatment meted out to those caged in jails serves an eye-opener for ICRC, Amnesty International and international organisation for human rights and asked to take cognizance of worsening conditions and ill treatment meted out to prisoners.

Geelani strongly condemned the continuous police raids and harassment of Peerzada Mohd Waseem in Nawakadal Srinagar and said police is desperate to implicate him against frivolous charges. He warned police of dire consequences, saying they are pushing youth to wall and creating appalling situations in state. Geelani strongly condemned police and forces for their unwanted night raids and harassment in Yamberzal Wari spore.
