The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers on Saturday called off their protest after the intervention of Chief Minister (CM) Mehbooba Mufti. Earlier, hundreds of SSA teachers staged a sit-in at Pratap Park Srinagar on Eid day.

The protesting teachers were later invited by CM Mehbooba Mufti for a meeting to discuss their demands. A delegation of five to six teachers led by Chairman JKReT teachers forum Farooq Ahmad Tantray met CM and decided to call off their protest.

"We were invited by CM and she assured us that the issue of SSA teachers will be resolved in two phases," Tantray said. He said that the chief minister assured them that the teachers will get benefits of 7th pay commission. Tantray said the association has called off the protest and that they have given a month's time to the government to resolve the issue.
