Khurshid Ganai appointed Advisor to Governor | KNO

SRINAGAR, JUNE 29 (KNO) : Governor N N Vohra today appointed Khurshid Ahmad Ganai as Advisor to the Governor with effect from the date he assumes charge. According to an order issued by the General Administration Department, the terms and conditions of his appointment shall be notified separately.

Hailing from Mattan village of Anantnag district, Ganai is an officer of the IAS-1982 batch which he topped at second rank. After Bachelor of Engineering from Regional Engineering College Srinagar (now known as National Institute of Technology), Ganai completed his post-graduation in Technology from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pillani, Rajasthan. He has also Masters in Business Administration. During his over a three-decade-long career, Ganai held key positions in administration and bureaucracy in his home State of Jammu and Kashmir and while on deputation with the Government of India.

Khurshid Ganai was appointed as Chief Information Commissioner of J&K on February 2017 before which he served as Advisor to Governor in 2016. Before shifting to New Delhi, where he served as Joint Secretary in Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Additional Secretary in Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in 2010, Ganai served as Principal Secretary to then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from January 2009 to August 2010. He also served as Financial Commissioner Industries and Commerce, Commissioner-Secretary General Administration Department and Administrative Secretary in various departments.

After serving as Deputy Commissioner in Pulwama and Doda, besides HOD and Secretary of different departments, he was appointed as Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir in 1999. In 2007, he was conferred with Chief Minister’s Gold Medal for honesty, integrity and meritorious service and his outstanding contribution to the public welfare and development of the state.
