Deptt of Politics and Governance holds book release-cum-discussion prog | KNO

Srinagar, July 9 (KNO) : Department of Politics and Governance, Central University of Kashmir, Monday organised a book release-cum-discussion of Kashmir: History, Politics, Representation (Cambridge University Press, 2017), edited by Prof. Chitralekha Zutshi at Nowgam-III academic block of the varsity here.

Prof. Chitralekha Zutshi is James Pinckney Harrison Professor of History at the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Virginia. Prof. Noor Ahmad Baba, adjunct faculty, chaired the event, which was attended by all the faculty members of Department of Politics and Governance and other departments. Addressing the gathering, Prof. N A Baba appreciated the work as a handy reference for many topics related to Kashmir on which ready material is not available yet like Naya Kashmir and Pakistan Administered Kashmir. The discussant for the event, Dr. Khalid highlighted the path breaking nature of this book.

He emphasized on the fact that the present work fills the gap on the existing literature on Kashmir, challenging the meta-narratives and focussing on the period before 1990s. Prof. Zutshi in her remarks explained the objective of her work. She hoped to make scholarship a part of the ongoing public discourse on Kashmir, which has also help and guide policy makers. Earlier, the Department Coordinator, Dr. Abhiruchi welcomed the guest, Prof. Zutshi. She also proposed the vote of thanks.
