'Article 35-A' Police to test waters by allowing peaceful protests | KNO

Kashmir News Observer (KNO)

Srinagar, Aug 2 (KNO) :  Jammu and Kashmir Police has decided to allow the peaceful protests for the first time as article 35 A pertains to the respect and honour over every State subject of the State. However, police won’t allow the situation to go ugly.

“We will allow the peaceful protests as long as they remain peaceful,” a top cop told KNO He said that though there is a plan-B also in place if separatists try to hijack the situation and give it a anti-national colour. Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for a two day protests and strike on August 5 and 6 against the series of petitions filed in supreme court challenging the legality and validity of article 35 A, that bars the non-state subjects from buying land in Kashmir and also from applying in the government jobs.

What remains to be seen is that whether police would allow the aged leader Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik to stage a protest march against the attack on article 35A. So far, police continues with its plan of confining Geelani at his Hyderpora residence, while as Malik is lodged in police station Kothibag and Mirwaiz is also confined to house or lodged in police station Nigeen if he defies his house detention.
