SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11 (KNO) : Director General Prisons, Dilbag Singh, today convened a meeting of Multi Agency Committee to review the progress of prisoners rehabilitation programme underway in state prisons. The DGP complimented the officers from Technical Education, Director School Education Kashmir, Director Social Welfare Department, Women Development Corporation, Health Department for rendering their services for running awareness, educational and skill development and rehabilitation programmes for the inmates of various Jails in the State.

It was noted with satisfaction that a large number of prisoners throughout the state have been benefitted from Adult Education, Computer Education, Beautician Course, Electrification and House Wiring and Jute Bag making schemes. The courses have improved their awareness and skill level. Dilbag Singh said that these skills would help the prisoners re-integrate and rehabilitate in the society in a fruitful manner; earning respectable status and livelihood after their release from the Jail. It was also revealed that with these skill development trainings, the abilities of the prisoner within the jail for various works assigned to them have improved and brought them better dividend and earnings for their family.

The members discussed newer skill development and rehabilitation schemes like fashion designing, Food processing including packaging and preservation, Fulkari, Paper Machie and Automobile- Motor Mechanic courses. These courses will be launched in various jails soon. The meeting also discussed the issue of enhancement of the wages given to prisoners to which it was decided that the issue will be taken up with higher officials so that prisoners could help their families by earning fair wages.

The members expressed satisfaction that these programmes also help in checking the menace of radicalization to a considerable extent. The meeting was attended by DIG Prisons Mohd Sultan Lone, Director Technical Education, Anoo Malhotra, Dy Director Information Department Rakesh Dubey, Assistant Director Social Welfare Department Dr. Najeeb Latief, representatives of Director School Education Kashmir and Psychiatric Hospital Srinagar. Superintendent District Jail Jammu, Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar, Superintendent, District Jail Udhampur, Superintendent District Jail Kathua, Superintendent District Jail Baramulla, Superintendent Spl. Jail Pulwama, Superintendent District Jail Anantnag, Superintendent District Jail Kupwara and Staff Officer to DGP Prisons participated in the meeting as special invitees to share their feedback in the meeting.
