DAK condemns the brutal attack on Medical Officer(Physician) at Verinag Hospital | KNO

Interference of political workers in hospital function is unacceptable.

Srinagar,4 Nov (KNO) : President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) , Dr Suhail Naik on Tuesday condemned the brutal attack on a Senior doctor, Dr Bilal Ahmad, a Physician by a political party worker at PHC Verinag.

“The unfortunate incident happened on intervening night between Monday and Tuesday, when the doctor was examining patients along with paramedical staff in emergency unit. The accused person who is reportedly a ground level political worker and is habitual of interfering in hospital functioning to remain in lime light. The physician doctor was beaten mercilessly by said poltical worker which has resulted in many serious injuries . The doctor was attacked when he was attending sick patients in emergency .

Expressing outrage, President DAK, Dr Suhail Naik in a statement said that this act of hooliganism against a senior doctor, while discharging his professional duties is unacceptable and shameful. To stay in lime light and to get poltical milage these hooligans are hell bent to create fuss in hospitals where they find large gathering of emotionally charged patients and their attendants.

Dr Owais H Dar General secretary DAK said that It is shocking to see doctors being beaten while trying to save emergency patients. These hooligans are habitual of creating fuss in hospital function to stay in lime light as after 4:00pm ,they find hospitals as proper places where large number of people have to visit regularly. Doctors put in their blood and sweat to save lives in extremely difficult conditions and instead of appreciation get thrashing.

Dr Ashraf Vice president DAK, termed the incident as very unfortunate and further said that “We have repeatedly been asking government to bring an ordinance against violence on doctors as a non bailable offence, but our repeated pleas have gone to deaf ears. Government probably is waiting for some big mishap to take place, and then only they will probably act.”

Meanwhile an FIR is being lodged in concerned police station against accused. We request concerned BMO verinag and CMO Anantnag to pursue this case strongly so that assailants are booked and taught lesson legally. DAK appeals Hon'ble Governor to take suo moto cognisance of these episodes which are resulting in brain drain from our state. We request the authorities to put in place adequate security measures for safety and security of Medical and paramedical staff and to prevent damage to hospital property.
