Advisor Ganai stresses on value-based education | KNO

‘Adapt to changing world, but don't lose social values’

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 08 (KNO) : Urging parents to stress on propagating value-based education among children, Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmed Ganai today advised the parent community to introspect within themselves if children show lack of adequate respect towards them.

The Advisor expressed these views during a "Grandparents day" function organized by Private Educational Institute, here at SKICC.

Secretary JK Board of School Education Farooq Peer, Joint Director School Board of Education Central Abid Hussain, Principal, Burn Hall Sabestian Nagathugal, teachers, students, parents and grandparents of students were present in the function.

Deliberating on the topic, the Advisor said if children are not showing the kind of respect we expect from them, we must introspect ourselves and see where we failed to inculcate these values in them.

Ganai said parents need to understand the dynamics of modern society as the world has changed into a global village and no one can remain insulated and isolated from what is happening in other parts of the world. However, it does not give us leverage from shying away from giving good values to our children.

Highlighting the role of a teacher, the Advisor said that after parents, it is the teacher whose behaviour greatly affects the psyche of a student.

Therefore, he said teachers hold a great responsibility in shaping the future of their students. Reiterating the need for developing scientific temper among students, the Advisor said nowadays all the good schools focus on developing their education system based on the same principles.

The Advisor said the world is changing fast and people these days are talking about the advancement of fourth industrial revolution.

He said for this it is imperative that children are provided with high-quality scientific education and prepare them new technology which includes Augmented reality (AR) Technology, Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, Internet of things (IoT), Blockchain, Cloud-Based App Development, and Digital Wallet apps.

He said such technologies will fundamentally alter the social system and lives of people for betterment. Deliberating on the degradation of the environment, the Advisor said people have to admit that they themselves are responsible for its degradation.

He said it is people who are responsible for caring about the natural resources which if not taken care now would fast reach to the irreversible stage.

On sanitation and cleanliness drive, the Advisor said the things are changing as people in J&K has mostly given up on open defecation and toilets have come up in almost every household in the State.

Urging school authorities to develop holistic personality among their students, the Advisor suggested the school administration should ensure that every student is including in all kind of school activities including getting them on the stage in one way or other so that they get over the stage or some other kind of phobia.

Emphasizing on the need to improve the quality of education, Ganai said it can only happen when teachers participate in various forms of capacity building exercises, and new books on modern sciences are introduced in our education system.

Speaking about women empowerment, the Advisor said State has always given due respect and value of its female folk, and the need of the hour is to carry it forward and built on to it. Secretary JKBOSE Farooq Peer said the world has changed where cultures are synergizing and economies are integrating.

Stressed on the need to provide good to students, the Secretary said providing quality education to our children will result in a better society.

The Principal Burn Hall School Sabestian Nagathugal extending a warm welcome to all the dignitaries said modern Kashmir may have lost many things in the last 30 years; however, the respect for elders is still prevalent in the society. He said it is obvious by the fact that the State till date has no old age home, which makes him distinct and unique in the entire country.

During the function, students displayed a plethora of activities including ramp show by kinder garden students wearing various forms of costumes, a satirical qawwali by upper primary class students, various forms of dance performance by secondary students and skit on the societal issue. All the performances received thunderous applause from the audience.

In the end, the Advisor gave away trophies and cash awards to the meritorious students who had passed higher secondary exams with top positions in the State.
