Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress President Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Wednesday said that situation in Kashmir is not conducive for holding forthcoming urban local body and panchayat elections. Congress president Mir while addressing a press conference after the party’s core group meeting, said that the Panchayat and Municipal polls were declared in the state without taking a stock of the situation on the ground. He added that "there is a lot of confusion over the issue of conduct of these elections.

Both the Centre and the state government have created the confusion. They don’t know what to do actually they create confusion among people as well as polictial parties.

Mir further added party had raised certain questions on the issue when it met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik and it seemed the government is not serious on the issue. Mir further said the party is minutely watching the situation and wants the Centre and the state government to clear their stand on whether to conduct these polls or not. He said that Central govt is says something and state govt is says something else. On whether the situation was conducive or not for conducting the polls, Mir said, even a blind person will tell you that the situation is not fit for elections right now.
