Srinagar Sept 17, (KNO) : Normal life came to a grinding halt across Kashmir and also in parts of Jammu region on Monday due to a shutdown called by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the recent civilian and militant killings in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Witnesses said that all shops and other commercial establishments remained closed in city centre and other parts of summer capital Srinagar.
They said that the strike call given by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik evoked total response as life remained paralaysed across Kashmir. A report said that Banihal area of Jammu region also observed shutdown on JRL strike. A civilian Rouf Ahmed was killed while as five militants were also killed on Saturday in a gunfight at Kulgam district of South Kashmir.
