Srinagar, September 24 (KNO) : As the clamour for upcoming civic polls grows louder amid threats by militants, state is all set to request the centre for at least 150 more companies of additional troops to ensure no incident takes place.
A reliable source told (KNO) that 150 additional troops will come at a time when 203 companies already stationed in Kashmir for urban local bodies polls.
ULB polls will start in Kashmir from October 8 and will be held in eight phases. The major political parties like National Conference and PDP have decided to stay away while as congress has decided to contest on the pretext of not giving BJP a feild day.
The request for additional forces stands approved and they will be coming to Srinagar in November. "353 additional companies will remain deployed for polls in JK and of that 230 will be deployed in Kashmir alone. So a total of close to 40000 additional forces will be assigned the job of ensuring peaceful polls," a source said.(KNO)
