Srinagar, September 28 (KNO) : A special police officer (SPO) posted for protection of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator from South Kashmir’s Wachi constituency, Friday fled away along with at least eight service riffles and a pistol of other SPOs deployed for the protection of law maker.
The incident happened at the government accommodation of PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmed Mir at Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar. Since the incident is first of its kind where in an SPO has decamped along with eight guns, entire security apparatus has gone into a tizzy. The police have already announced a high alert while as nakas have been laid at all the entry and exit points in Srinagar. Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for anyone who provides information about the SPO, who has been identified as Adil Bashir Sheikh, 24, belt number488/SPO, a resident of Zainapora, the native village of PDP legislator. Sheikh, according to police, had joined as SPO in March 2011.
Additional director general of police (law and order, security), Munir Khan told (KNO) that the SPO has fled along with seven AK-47 rifles and a pistol that belong to other policemen deployed for the protection of PDP MLA. “We are looking into the incident as to how he managed to flee along with guns,” Khan said. “We will also find out whether this all has been done in connivance with the militants. All angles are being looked into.”(KNO)
