Srinagar, September 29 (KNO) : Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday welcomed the decision of state government to recruit 1000 doctors on fast track basis. However, DAK in a statement issued to (KNO) expressed strong resentment against SRO-202 for the appointments. Earlier, the JK government decided to appoint 1000 doctors on contract basis to fill the vacant posts in government run hospitals in the wake of a shortage of doctors working in rural health care and apparent human power crisis. “There is a dire need to address the shortage of Medical Officers and human power crisis in the government run rural health institutions of Jammu and Kashmir,” said president DAK, Dr Suhail Naik. He said that it is moral responsibility of state government to come out with solutions and to have an effective recruitment system in place. “Fast track recruitment with job security is definitely going to stop brain drain and strengthening of rural health care system. To retain large number of specialists and super specialists in rural health care system, government must do away with SRO -202 and recruit the medical officers on permanent basis,” Dr Naik added. Dr Owais H Dar, General Secretary DAK said that there is acute shortage of doctors in state of Jammu and Kashmir, and patient rush has exponentially increased over last few years. “The existing doctors have tremendous work load to run the system round the clock and majority of our doctors are fatigued and exhausted,” he said. “The state government must take a more holistic perspective of the appointment process and consequences of recruitment,” Dr Dar added, saying that it is discrimination towards medical fraternity that till now, no gazetted post has been appointed on SRO-202 through PSC, so why to apply this discriminatory SRO selectively for doctors only. DAK urged Governor led administration to appoint these 1000 doctors on regular basis, so that state will get best lot of specialists and super specialists. Otherwise majority of doctors may not prefer to apply for Government job for meagre salary.(KNO)
